A machine category does not by itself prove that a part can be produced economically or inspected correctly. The RFQ should be reviewed against the complete process envelope.
Geometry and access
Part envelope, axis travel, tool reach, collision clearance, feature access, setup count, and workholding determine whether the proposed machining route is practical.
Material and cutting conditions
Material grade, heat-treatment state, wall thickness, interrupted cuts, chip evacuation, thermal behavior, and surface requirements affect tooling and process assumptions.
Measurement and repeatability
Probing can support setup and process control, but final acceptance still depends on a suitable inspection method, calibrated equipment, and an agreed interpretation of the drawing.
RFQ decision table
| Decision area | What to make explicit |
|---|---|
| Geometry and access | Part envelope, axis travel, tool reach, collision clearance, feature access, setup count, and workholding determine whether the proposed machining route is practical. |
| Material and cutting conditions | Material grade, heat-treatment state, wall thickness, interrupted cuts, chip evacuation, thermal behavior, and surface requirements affect tooling and process assumptions. |
| Measurement and repeatability | Probing can support setup and process control, but final acceptance still depends on a suitable inspection method, calibrated equipment, and an agreed interpretation of the drawing. |
