Separate cosmetic surfaces from functional datums

Identify which faces are customer-visible and which features control assembly, such as card guides, connector cutouts, standoff patterns, and cover interfaces. That distinction helps the supplier balance machining sequence, handling protection, and inspection effort.

Clarify finish timing and masking needs

If anodize, conversion coating, paint, bead blast, brushed texture, or selective masking is required, include that information in the RFQ package. Finish sequencing can change how threads, contact surfaces, and tight-fitting covers must be machined before the part leaves the shop.

Define tolerance priorities for assembly success

Highlight the dimensions that control lid fit, connector position, board clearance, fastener engagement, and thermal interface flatness. A short list of assembly-critical checks is usually more valuable than treating every dimension as equally important during quote review and receiving inspection.
